According to the data from ProColombia, Colombian exports to all destinations exceeded US$113 million over the five months. In addition to the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, France, Germany, Argentina, Russia, and Costa Rica were also popular destinations.

Over the last few years, avocado exports in Colombia have increased so dramatically that they have become the second-largest agricultural export. In 10 months, avocado exports from Colombia have nearly doubled on a year-on-year basis, from Jan to May 2021.

In the opinion of Flavia Santoro, Director of ProColombia, avocados hold the second-place position among the world’s top exports after bananas. Undoubtedly, it had been a significant growth driver for the country's agro-export basket, allowing our suppliers to diversify abroad.

However, Colombia continues to create new opportunities outside of Europe, especially in Asia, even as Europe remains the leading avocado market by far.

Corpohass director Jorge Restrepo told The Philippine Star: "Hass avocado exports to South Korea also demonstrate how new markets opened thanks to the strategy of the national government's health diplomacy."

Colombian fruit is already a new option for Korean consumers in this market because entrepreneurs have driven it to new destinations in markets with very demanding plans for producers and exporters."

This sector, Resetropo said, has been a significant part of Colombia's non-traditional agricultural exports, which attracts considerable foreign investment from countries such as Chile, South Africa, the U.S., and Peru.

In 2020, Colombia exported over 76,400 metric tons (MT) of avocados, an increase of 74 percent from the year before. The increase in value to US$146m was a 65 percent increase.
